Happy Mothers Day and NOW US - 50th Edition

First we'd like to send out a BIG Happy Mothers Day to all the Moms out there! We are all indebted to you for everything you have done for us in the past, present and future. Canada Huffington Post has a great article listing some of the most touching songs about Mom which includes tracks by Taylor Swift, Christina Aguilera, Carrie Underwood, Boyz II Men and more. Check out the full list right here - 20 of the most adorable Songs about Mom

One of the standout songs is "Mama Liked the Roses" by Elvis Presley who lost his mother to a heart attack in 1958 when he was 23. His tearful funeral quote was "Goodbye, darling. I love you so much. I lived my whole life just for you." A decade later, Elvis recorded this beautiful tribute that shows just how much a mother's love endures.

"Now That's What I Call Music - 50th US Edition

Since 1998, the "Now That's What I Call Music" has steadily put out hit CD after hit CD. The "NOW" series originally started in the UK in 1983 and has now expanded to over 25 countries. Altogether the US series of 50 CDs has included 984 songs, 583 artists and together with all NOW series in the world have sold over 250 million CDs (WOW NOW!). The US 50th NOW CD track listing includes some of the best songs on the radio right now including "Happy" by Pharrell Williams, "All of Me" by John Legend, "Pompeii" by Bastille and more.

Unfortunately not all the NOW tracks are hit material - As I continued scrolling through the track list and listening to unfamiliar songs there were many of what I would call B-sides included. I'm sure this has to do more with licensing restrictions then the inability to pick out the hit songs :) Still you may listen to the whole CD and find a new gem of a song that really appeals to you.

Here's a Youtube tribute to the NOW US - 50th edition:

NOTE: When searching out the NOW 50th edition be aware that the UK 50th edition came out in 2001 (confusing right :)) and the UK version includes some very cool hits from say 13 years ago. Here's the YouTube clip for NOW UK 50th which features Westlife, Destiny's Child and Kylie Minoque among others (flassssh back whiplash :))

That's all for today kiddies - Once again a very HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all the Moms out there - hope you have a wonderful Mothers Day Weekend!

Radio is Still KING and "SAY Something"

First full week of April is here and according to sources, radio listening is still king when it comes to where folks listen to music first (49%). At least that's when looking at my age demographic. When they look at the younger music lovers, sites like Pandora, Spotify or their IPhone was the #1 location they listened to music.

Where is the #1 place you listen to music: Radio, CDs, MP3s, Pandora/Spotify/Beats/etc, Vinyl records???

Read the full article here from the Denver Post and then post a comment to let us know: Denver Post - Radio is STILL King!

Now here is a song that will really take your breath away when you stop what you're doing and really listen. Brought to us by the the duo "A Great Big World" and featuring Christina Aguilera, the lyrics plead with us to communicate with the one person we're standing right next to, but feeling so far away from. Today would be a good opportunity to say something or maybe something more to the ones that we love. Go ahead and do it I promise you'll feeeeel good reconnecting all over again.

If you need another dose of "Say Something" please check it out again below:

"Say something I'm giving up on you...
I'll be the one if you want me to.

A Great Big World consists of singer/songwriters Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino who also had their song "This is the New Year" performed on an episode of Glee last year. They've already toured with Ingrid Michaelson, Matthew Morrison, Five for Fighting and certainly more opportunities on the way.

Okay folks that's our Monday update for the week...We'll be back at the end of the week with another post and another great song (until the great songs run out :))

Peace, Love & Laughter

Mondays Song - "Rain" by Creed

The band Creed was a significant part of the Rock and Top 40 radio airwaves from 1997 till 2002 before going their separate ways in 2004. With songs like "My Sacrifice", "With Arms Wide Open" and "One Last Breath" it was hard not to hear their pop-friendly tunes every day. After a 5 year break dabbling in solo and other projects Creed is back and have hit the pop music nail on the head yet again. Their new CD "Full Circle" released in 2009 features their latest single "Rain" which is another excellent mid-tempo pop-rocker that feels like it keeps moving underneath you while the rain falls from above. Creed may never match their earlier commerical success (26 million albums sold in US) but they have shown they still know how to a write a great song. Please take a listen here:

Live Nation merges with Ticketmaster - One big Goliath

Live Nation and Ticketmaster just got the go-ahead from the Justice department for their planned merger so look for more changes on the live music front. Together the new Live Nation Entertainment controls some of the biggest artists on the planet including Madonna, The Eagles, Christina Aguilera and Jay Z and they also control many of the large venues in major cities. There was some language in the Justice Department findings that will help the smaller companies (a little...) but it remains to be seen how this will play out long term. For more info here's the full Rolling Stone article:

Well Monday came and went pretty quick (which is usually a good thing). Tomorrow we'll post our Borders Valentines Tour info along with another pop'n'love tune from the radio!
